Our hens are very busy, and very vocal. All 80 have started laying, so we collect close to six dozen eggs a day. Currently we are selling our Hoe Down Eggs at Harry's Market on Hwy 54 and 3 Cups in Chapel Hill for $3.50/dozen. The eggs are mixed sizes and colors (green, brown, and white). We have a variety of chicken breeds: Araucana, Rhode Island Red, Barred Rock, Silver-Laced Wyandotte, Polish Top-Hat, and Cochons. They have several acres to roam and they are very tame. Since we do not have any roosters, none of the eggs are fertilized. Our five goats protect them from raccoons, snakes, and other predators at night.
We call the eggs "Hoe Down Eggs" and our bread "Hootenanny Bread." Once our bread oven is finished, bread will be available weekly with eggs!
